Is there a way to easily access past posts by yourself and other users? I believe it used to be within the profile page at Forumer, but I haven't been able to find a similar option on this site.

There is. Click the username (or your username), look under the Statistics tab, look under Posts, and click "Find all messages posted by [blahblah]."

Going to try to increase the size of the "View New Posts" buttons (the things that were martini glasses the other day). Forum may be wonky for the next hour or two.

I've found myself logged out today. Twice from this computer, and once from home. Logging back in isn't a big deal, but do you know why that's happening?

No, but that happened to me today too! (I haven't made any modifications since Thanksgiving until this past hour, FWIW.)

Okay, I think I'm done tinkering. Please tell me if you see any strange graphical behavior, particularly in the View New Post buttons. I think this should work with all the major browsers now, but there's always the chance that some phone or tablet might not support drop shadows or something.

What you SHOULD see: the buttons for View New Post should be pill-shaped rounded rectangles filled with light blue, with a slightly darker blue drop shadow to make them show up better. The old icon should be positioned in the center of the button.

Same. Before I would be automatically logged in. Now I have to relog in every time and I haven't changed anything.

It is a forumotion glitch, at the end of every month apparently that will happen it doesn't seem to be for a full 24 hours though, I noticed it late last night (around 10pm EST) and it was fine after 7am EST this morning.

I'm still getting logged out randomly. I'm gonna give this till tomorrow on the assumption it's just a time-of-the-month thing and then we might have to start looking into remedies.
--

I noticed that sometimes the new View Latest Post buttons are ending up as small-buttons on the right side of the screen, but that should only be the case on the left side. Going to try to fix that now. Hopefully nobody will see anything except that the buttons will start working properly, but bear with me.

ETA: And done. I hope that's fixed it.

Oh, and if you're looking for your own posts there's a shortcut on the home page: "View your posts" at the top under the banner.

Question: Should the "View New Post" buttons stay "down" (no drop shadow, in other words) after they've been clicked? I was wondering this last night. You could still click them again, of course, but I thought it might be handy to see what's been viewed already. Not making any changes now, but I was curious if this would be a useful thing.

Minor tweak to the View New Post buttons, because I apparently can't leave anything alone: they now animate properly when you click them.

I feel like I only come into this thread to ask 'why?', but here I am again. Why have a bunch of threads now got a piece of paper next to them?

The piece of paper was always there. You didn't notice it before because it was not raised up on a button[*]. By the way in general I can hide things that come with the site but not create things that weren't there to start with. I can also move things around. If you want to know what something does, hover the mouse over it.

[*] Unless you mean the BIG paper icons, which have also always been there, but which I haven't touched. There is a key to them at the bottom of the page, or you can just hover the mouse over them if you don't care to scroll.

I still don't understand why the piece of paper is there, is that a sign of something?

Hover the mouse over the piece of paper and read the hover text in the yellow box. It explains what the icon means. In addition there is a Legend at the bottom of the page (on any page containing the pieces of paper). I didn't add the paper, and it's not my fault. It is just a thing this forum does.

...you do mean the paper icons on the left, correct?

Paper w/pencil = New Post in the thread
Paper w/o pencil = No New Posts in the thread

This is different from the small button's particle_person has been playing with which have "tiny" paper icons, which actually transport you to the first new post since your last visit.

The paper icon is also only there for a thread that has only one page, I think. After that there doesn't seem to be an image showing, although if I hover my mouse over the space it says "new posts" which makes me think that there may be an image there, but it's hidden?

Yes, if you look at the legend at the bototm, there are *six* versions of the new posts, no new posts paper icons, I hid the "popular" thread combo, which seems to be triggered by a total post count vs. number of pages, because some threads with 2 pages have them and some with two pages don't.

Maybe we should just get rid of them all. They are causing confusion and they aren't all that useful.

See, I asked because a) If I hover the mouse over the paper nothing happens, and b) there are plenty of threads for me where there are new posts, but where there is no paper next to the thread, which is why I was confused. I guess the ones with no paper are multi-page? But yeah, confusing.

Possibly your browser doesn't support the hover text? I think I'm going to ask to get rid of them unless someone has a reason they should stay.
