Swarley, my computer's in the shop so I'm using a really old one that I don't think has one.

There is a thing I can do that would block the ads entirely for everyone, but I'm PRETTY sure that would get us busted by Forumer, which is why I didn't do it a long time ago. In an emergency, I might consider it temporarily (like to stop people from getting a trojan that transmitted automatically).

There's been some confusion over which GOT thread is which and you can't tell when it's on the main page. Could we change the title of one to A Song of Fire and Ice or put spoilers in the title first, for the sake of sanity?

Is this already fixed, or do I still need to do something? It looks totally obvious to me which is which, as of this moment.

It's if you are viewing the main forum page and the newest post in Television is in "Game of Thrones (spoilers)", all you see on the main page is "Game of Thrones..." Maybe it could be "Book Spoilers Thread: Game of Thrones."

(I don't personally click into threads from the front page but I could see how that could be an issue for people who do.)

If your screen is that tiny, all you would see is "(Book spoilers) G..." or something, and you'd have to guess what, right? Seriously, I'm having trouble replicating the problem. Can someone give me an actual screen shot so I have an idea of how much space is available?

EtA: Even on my phone, the long title actually wraps around to the next line.

Post  Carrie Ann Tue May 14, 2013 11:09 am

I just had this happen again, so I thought I'd bring it up. Occasionally the whole forum will like reset so that when I click on "last read" in a thread, it brings me back 2 months. The strange thing is that I was halfway through catching up here and suddenly all the threads that had new posts today are unread again and when I click on them, I go back to March 18th. Does this happen to anyone else? Any ideas on why? It used to happen to me when I checked at work too, so I don't think it's just a browser issue, but it could be!

ETA: I checked again, and some threads are only taking me back one month - there seems to not be much consistency in terms of date or number of pages or anything. Strange.

If you hover your mouse over the link, your browser should show you the full URL, which includes the full thread title. (If it's not showing the full URL that's something that can usually be changed in the settings.)

I've had some weirdness with cookies/last read dates, too. Sometimes it seems to happen when I check the forum from my phone (which obviously would mess with the last visit/read times), but that doesn't explain the times when it takes me WAY back instead of skipping over some recent posts.

Since particle_person was curious, this is what it looks like on my browser when a GoT thread is the last one posted to. I didn't realize other browsers did different things.

OH. Well for one thing I thought people meant something completely different. I thought they meant what you see on the left on this page:
https://thesnarkening.forumotion.com/f3-television

But what you're talking about can be fixed by allowing more room for titles by modifying the CSS. Otherwise every similar long name thread would have to be changed. Later tonight or tomorrow I'll have a look.

And...fixed!

ETA: For display bugs/issues, it would be really helpful if you all could like a screenshot of the issue. With this last one, the issue was that I wasn't understanding the problem.

You may have noticed that Formumotion is doing a little work. I'm going to remove the Smileys (until next 4/1, anyhow) and a few other extraneous things that have the potential to make the board look like Vegas.

Anyone know how to do a block quote? When I hit the "quote" button, I can't edit the entry - can't even move the cursor out of the quoted area. I can still just create a general reply and type in the correct tags, but to just quote an entire post so it'll have the "So and So said...." at the top doesn't work.

Also, it looks like a lot of people are having problems with spoiler tags in the new set-up. Not a problem so far, and I'm not a spoiler-phobe anyway, but I see the potential for a lot of inadvertent spoilering.

Huh, I have had no trouble with block quotes. (I haven't tried spoilers yet.) I did notice that it puts a stupid amount of space after the block quote, and every time I edit a post I have to go back and delete them.

Anyway, if you guys would grab a screen shot and link me here for any display bugs too, that would be helpful. Also tell me what OS and browser. (I have a feeling the JavaScript implementation in your particular browser is not handling things right. Security features might be involved too, I'm not sure? That's my theory, anyhow.) When we accumulate enough reports, Blixie can send them on to Forumotion.

I also can't use the quote function properly today. I can't remember if I have used it successfully in the past.

Test of block quote

This is a test of the blockquote quote block.

Okay, if I put a quote in by hand with the toolbar, it seems to be okay, but when I tried to quote Lily, it didn't let me put the cursor outside the quote box. I'm on an iPad in Safari.

^ above info is what I'd like, with a screen shot if applicable.

This is what I see when I try to quote and I can't move the cursor out of the yellow box.

ETA: Using Firefox on Windows XP (I think, some old-ish version of Windows).

Yup same here. It wasn't doing that to me yesterday. JavaScript theory is looking weak then. Some kind of behind the scenes bug has been introduced? In which case it will probably be fixed soon.

That's been happening to me since the new editor appeared. If you click the last button in the row -- the little sheet of paper that if you mouse over it it says "Switch Editor Mode" -- that will give you a less "helpful" editing window that shows you the quote code and not the bullshit WYSIWIG fail. That's how I've been doing it. Hopefully they'll figure it out soon.

The Internet: fixing stuff that wasn't broke just cause they can!

Please keep the info coming and I can see if others are bitching, as glitchy as things can be here sometimes they are fairly responsive to issues.

Yep, I've been having the same issue with quoting directly from a post as well (as opposed to starting a new post and using the quote function).

Since this issue with the quote boxes isn't going away, I think we'll report it.

Separately, I set the board to only display in sans-serif fonts, because it makes no sense to take the font from wherever we happen to copy and paste from.
