I finally noticed that in the corner of the illustration!

Re: Hannibal
I KNOW. I was like "Awwwwww" and then "Oh yeah, Hannibal murdered two people 30 seconds ago." And then "Awwwww" again. This show is so weird.PrincessCleo wrote:Well, and did you see his face when Will finally walked through the door at the end? AWWWW.
I don't know why he sent Will (I was half expecting him to burst in and save him actually before I realized that would give the game away probably), but I'm thinking more or less 2 and 3 as well; we're certainly meant (I think) to understand that he's testing Will a bit whether he realizes it or not to see if Will is worthy of being his BFF. I think the look at the end was equal parts "Yay, you're not dead" and "Yay, you lived up to my expectations."
There are just...a LOT of classy, artistic, elaborately staged murders in these people's town. Next week I expect the murder weapon will (somehow, disgustingly) be a top hat and a monocle.
Now I can't remember the line but I think something Dr. Gillian said made me think that she perhaps was ALSO a murderer. I wish I could remember; I already deleted it. And/or were they saying with Hannibal's stare at the end that HE was responsible for the death of her attacker? And did Dr. GA know that?

Re: Hannibal
No, I know what you're talking about, because I thought so too. I kind of think either she killed the patient or he did for her because he is so ~protective~ and I'm not sure which one of them knows who did what, or maybe both of them know. particle person gets me transcripts to do recaps, let me look--
"Did you take responsibility when you were attacked by your patient?"
"Yes. But I don't take responsibility for his death." [Did she kill him?]
"Nor should you." [Because she didn't kill him, he did?]

Oh dear lord. Here I was thinking... naively, stupidly... "Oh, finally, a dish that doesn't contain meat!"

Re: Hannibal
Someone came up with an interesting theory. Involving vocal cords, fittingly enough.
Wait, I forgot--someone found where Bryan Fuller actually answered that question.

Re: Hannibal
I'm just fascinated that there's a subdivision of the FBI whose sole purpose is investigating artisan-crafted murders.
Re: Hannibal
There is entirely too much thought being put into the preparation of human bodies into other stuff, I must say.
But I suppose I would rather people find useful things to do with my remains than simply shove me in the dirt. Not sure I'd want to be turned into a work of art, though.
Tobias killing the trombonist (or was it a trumpeter?) reminds me vaguely of something I thought was Hannibal's deal. Doesn't he have a mention of killing an opera singer for "mangling" a performance in one of the books?

Re: Hannibal
I think there was something about an opera singer in Hannibal, and I'm pretty sure it's mentioned that he killed a musician who played badly in one of the two books. I can't remember if that was specifically Benjamin Raspail, who was also a flutist, or if the guy was just that annoying.
Re: Hannibal
Yeah, the embalming bodies at sea with Liqours is true. I want to say they took Lord Byron back from Greece to burial in a cask of creme de menthe. Or maybe just brandy, which his wife hated. But it needs to be 180 proof for long term preservation.

Re: Hannibal
Poor Will. Poor poor Will. Once again, Hannibal is the worst at helping. He was very quick to diss the hospital idea, tsk.
Hugh Dancy is phenomenal. His reaction when he found himself in Hannibal's waiting room was just brilliant. So understated but so real and so well done.
As regards Abigail
Seriously, the casting in this show is just superb. I need this to get a second series. And a third, and a fourth and a fifth. Make it so!

- Spoiler:
- helping her father find the girls, I did not see that coming. And now Will knows which is just great because he needs that information like he needs a hole in his head. I thought the ending with Hannibal hugging Abigail was sweet and then I realised that this is all part of his grooming plan so no, not so sweet.
I liked Alana going head to head with Crawford. Nicely done and true to both characters.
Lance Henrikson, I thought, would be in it more.

Re: Hannibal
I ill-advisedly watched it last night, right before bed (since it's on at 10 here), so I (a) was sleepy while watching it and don't remember all the details and yet (b) had crazy-ass Hannibal dreams all night. I can't believe WILL AND HANNIBAL HAVE A CRAZY SECRET NOW. It felt very game-changey.
Hannibal really is the very worst at helping.
I really don't care about the potential lurve of Will and Alana. I didn't see Abigail's revelation coming either.

Re: Hannibal
See, the worst part is, I had spent weeks watching people argue the Abigail thing, with me sitting there going, "No, no, guys! I think logically she couldn't have XYZ because Logical Reasons As Seen In Episode Blah Blah Blah!" So it's not that it surprised me so much as it made me want to slap myself. It was kind of awesome. Heh.
I was kind of underwhelmed by the Killer of the Week business--having Lance Henriksen for just that one scene (and what a weird note to end it on) just kind of highlighted how thin it was otherwise. Probably because they didn't even have to do all that much to solve it. The episode kinda plays better on a rewatch if you just ignore those parts.

I think Lance was wasted a little too, and also Frank Black would never make a people totem pole.
I didn't dream about Hannibal, but I did wake up thinking about it. What does it say about my life that I don't think I've ever had a hug as awesome as Fancy Cannibal gave his new cannibal daughter?

Re: Hannibal
He really kind of was the best at hugging? I don't know how to feel about that. Kacey Rohl, who plays Abigail, was joking on Twitter about having snuggies made with "Hannibal Gives Great Hugs" printed on them.
Re: Hannibal
Giving good hugs is critical if you're going to be a world-class seducer. Satan gives great hugs.

Re: Hannibal
I love everything about all the fucked-up gourmet food on this show. It all rules so very much.
Seeing Scott Thompson in a serious role is fun. But is anyone else annoyed by the female Asian crime scene investigator? Her acting style really grates on me for some reason.
After getting caught up over the last few days I have to wonder -- how in the world is this show on NBC? I'm forced to go with the South Park interpretation, "Horrific, deplorable violence is OK as long as people don't say any naughty words." The angel wings episode was so alarmingly nasty.

Yeah, apparently NBC said they'd let them get away with just about anything--maybe trim a shot by a second or two here and there--as long as there wasn't any nudity. So they obscured a nipple in the Field Kabuki scene. Like, that was their problem with that whole business. I was to the point where I felt like the Angel Maker episode would have been more effective if they'd been a little more coy about showing things. Like, ditch the long lingering closeups of people's backs, for real.
I don't know if y'all stopped to look at the crime scene photos in--which episode was it, the organ harvester one? Where they were looking at pictures from the Chesapeake Ripper murders, and you saw them in the lecture slides, on the desk, and pinned on the wall? Good God, those were repulsive. But you had to go a bit out of your way to see them, because they were either hard to see or went by pretty fast.

Re: Hannibal
I really, really enjoy this show, but then sometimes I wonder what that says about me as a person that I enjoy something with this much violence and gore. I kind of feel.... guilty about enjoying it as much as I do. I like to think that the horrible double entendres about eating people reduce the horror a little bit.

"Listen, we're worried because you have this scene where there's a gruesomely murdered naked woman on display in the middle of the field."
"Oh, it's fine, because her breasts have been impaled with deer antlers, so you won't see her nipples."
"OK, whew. Dodged a bullet on that one."

Also, the nude asses on the strung-up angel corpses were, like, completely obscured by blood and filth, so that was OK too.
