Re: Hannibal
Heh, that does sound like him. I'll make a note of it.
(I also really want to link to your post, formerlyrandom, but the preview for next week [wtfffff] suggests that maybe I ought to hold on to it until then.)

Re: Hannibal
I read that exchange as a bit of "odd couple" comedy, with Lecter doing a kind of facepalm in his response to Will, and looking hilariously pompous throughout the whole thing.

Re: Hannibal
Also, I know we were joking about Hannibal killing Horrible Unethical Neurosurgeon for not properly appreciating the Iberico ham, but I can't help but notice that in on-screen terms, at least, that's two meals in a row that Hannibal has prepared for his playthings that were not - so far as we know - made of people. Something tells me that MEANS SOMETHING (he said as he slowly sculpted his unbelievably expensive gourmet mashed potatoes into a detailed replica of Mads' face).
(Is there a kind of ridiculously high priced gourmet potato? That seems counterintuitive to the nature of potatoes, but then I would never have guessed there was $129/lb ham before last week, either).

Re: Hannibal
THE FINEST POTATOES IN THE LAAAAAND!
Fuller did mention on Twitter that originally it was going to be a cabbage soup without any meat at all. Then he said "CABBAGE IS PEOPLE," so who even knows. Also, that the scene with Bedelia was originally going to be dinner at his house ("veal"), but they changed it back to hers. (He also said this was really chicken.) Basically, I always go over to the food stylist's blog to find out exactly how everything is supposed to be people.

Re: Hannibal
There are some higher-end potatoes-- tiny potatoes or Japanese Purple Potatoes-- but nothing that's gotten foodie notice like Iberico Ham or Silkie Chicken. Maybe there's something special-imported from Peru or Central America that you would have to be HARD CORE to know about, but I'm not in that league.
(Though I will say the common grocery-store potatoes from Costa Rica are absurdly light and creamy, and I am amazed there hasn't been some sort of foodie-run on those. Because dear lord those are the thing.)

Re: Hannibal
In her chat with Jack Crawford, I couldn't help but notice that Bedelia had a herb garden of sorts in much the same way that Hannibal has one in his kitchen. I'm not saying the herb garden has any deep meaning, though with this show who knows, but it was a detail that struck me.
When are the Emmy nominations out? Because seriously Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy are both well deserving.

Her whole house is similar to Hannibal's. Only lighter.

Re: Hannibal
Hannibal's chicken soup had like, SNAKES in it. Neither helpful nor delicious.
I had a dream that Mads Mikkelsen and my neighbor were having a conversation in Danish and I passed them and they just kind of stopped and stared coldly at me. And later I said to my neighbor "Wow, I didn't know you spoke Danish, that is so cool" and he was like "...Yeeeessss, Danish" and it was just all very weird and uncomfortable. Hannibal: Personifying My Anxiety Dreams Since 2013.
ETA: Hannibal may be the worst at helping but he is the best at Wii!
Aaaaaand I think I'm on the cusp of having a bit of a Mads Mikkelsen situation going on. Here he is speaking Danish. Haaaaawwwwwwttttttt.

La Bonnotte potatoes -- I forget where I heard about these but they can apparently be more expensive than The Ham, though not always.laddical wrote:(Is there a kind of ridiculously high priced gourmet potato? Re: Hannibal
Hannibal seems to like garnishing his food with animal feet. I would have to say "No thank you" to any food served with feet.

Re: Hannibal
Yep, that black stuff in the soup, like the leg on the side, is the chicken with the skin still on. Not particularly appetizing, even if it hadn't come from Hannibal.

Re: Hannibal
Hannibal's recipe for chicken soup sounded an awful lot like one of those soups you're supposed to eat after giving birth, if you're Chinese. They sell those chickens at all the Asian markets around here.
But I'm sure Hannibal found a way to make the stock out of people.

I was getting a little concerned about my Mads crush, but then I looked up his dancing on YouTube and found this. Mads is the one with the suspenders. Caution: More disturbing than anything you'll see on Hannibal.
...I'm lying, crush still active. Just interspersed with giggles.

Re: Hannibal
I don't think I can watch that. It cannot possibly live up to what I'm imagining right now.
Also, Bryan Fuller has done an interview with @Tattle_Crime (a fan who's been roleplaying Freddie), which I find just completely charming. No spoilers for the finale, but lots for possible future-season developments.

Awesome!
We watched Casino Royale a few weeks ago (because we can't not watch Casino Royale when it's on TV) and I couldn't help but wonder if Le Chiffre was going to eat James Bond there at the end...
