You guys if this show is cancelled I will dust off my lj like its 2002 and have an epic rant and I may or may not have my "Listening to" set to the Cure.
I will go you one further--if this show is cancelled I will do an epic LJ rant and have "listening to" set to The Smiths.
Hannibal smelling Will was probably one of them more disturbing moments--but Will's reaction and Hannibal's "oh, that's not polite?" face made it awesome.
Eddie Izzard next week. And I kind of hope they have Anthony Heald playing Dr. Chilton. Maybe we can get a Barney sighting too!

Nope, "I love David Tennant. He would have made an amazing Hannibal, there's no doubt in my mind." I don't know what David Tennant he met, but I'm having a hard time imagining this. Like, I cannot imagine anyone less like the current portrayal they have going on (possibly because all I can think of is Barty Crouch Jr.). I'm sure he'd be a lot of fun as another character, though.RiverThames wrote:Tennant as Will, right? Because I can't imagine him as Hannibal.

Raul Esparza, I think? They've done a really good job with the new casting (IMO), but yeah, it was like Heald walked right out of the book. And I kind of hope they have Anthony Heald playing Dr. Chilton.
Guys, you can't tell me that I could live in a world where David Bowie played Hannibal Lecter's uncle and then take that away from me. You can't.You guys if this show is cancelled I will dust off my lj like its 2002 and have an epic rant and I may or may not have my "Listening to" set to the Cure.

All I can see is the Tenth Doctor. "Sorry, sorry, just popping in because I was a bit peckish, and I noticed your liver. And I'm going to have to eat it. I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry."

Re: Hannibal
DT's been pretty awesome in the villain roles he's played. He was a rapist/serial killer in a TV series called Secret Smile once, and was really creepy. He got down to like the final 3 for Hannibal so he must have screen tested well. I'd love to see him in the role, even though I think Mads is great.
I heard Fuller plans to write him a guest spot for the second series, if Hannibal gets a second series (or has it already?).

And Amazon. I suppressed the urge to throw things. But then, everything being available in a timely fashion before I write the goddamn recap is maybe more important to me than most people.

HEADDESKHEADDESKHEADDESK.
To futher the headdeskery of this episode, I went to look up the meaning of "ceuf". Bing and Google returned nothing but references to the missing episode or the webisodes.
That's because the word the episode should have been called is actually "Å“uf", which means "egg" in French. That's not a "c e" at the front, it's a grapheme that is usually translated in English words as "o e". Subpoena being one of the most common.
And apparently in french it kind of as an "en" sound to it. The wikipedia audio pronunciation guide makes it sound vaguely like "enough" - but with more snooty Frenchness behind it.
So fail all around regarding this episode from Bryan Fuller, his technical advisors, and NBC.

Even Fuller pronounced it "Suf" like an ijit. :) Hannibal would never make such a mistake.
So. Why are all crazy people in possession of fly tying gear? And why can all crazy people tie flies?

Yeah... I was a French major and thus irrationally itchy about it. So then one of my commenters actually went and demanded a clarification (OMG NO WHAT ARE YOU DOING) from Bryan Fuller, and he doubled down and tweeted the entire list of episode titles complete with "Ceuf." Calling the episode "Egg," basically, is really thematically cool. Calling it a nonsense word... what?
... then I joked on Twitter that I hoped no one was calling themselves "Fannibals" and two hours later he made sure to use that as an all-caps hashtag in three different tweets and RTed a girl saying she was proud to be one. I'm choosing to interpret this as either me imagining things or him just being mischievous.
Re: Hannibal
Watched Å“uf (can't capitalize it, boo). What a weird little episode that was. No real explanation of motive for the killings, strange character development, rabbit, dogs eating people sausage, "SHOCKINGLY RUDE, HANNIBAL!" etc. Maybe the writers drank the mushroom tea and then wrote it.
I just read a fan theory that Abigail is being groomed (by the show writers, not Hannibal) as a replacement for Starling, since they don't have the rights to Clarice's character. Could be interesting if she actually does try to go into the FBI, with Hannibal rummaging around in her psyche.
Also, Crawford, Will, and Alana are going to take it SO HARD when all is revealed about Hannibal. They all seem to really enjoy his company.

I keep seeing "Ceuf" pop up all over the Internet, and it drives me crazy.
The "oe", you don't really pronounce the "o". It just signifies a long "e" sound (well, the French "e"); it sounds like "ugh". Phonetically: "Ugh-ffff"

I'm still sort of stunned by the last episode. That really happened, right? It wasn't some sort of fever dream? I mean...whole chunks of the two first books were on screen last night and now I don't know what happppppens omg.
Also, why does Hannibal have to be a serial killer, he's so charming, can't he just be friends with everyone and not feed them people and everything would be lovely.

Re: Hannibal
He's
- Spoiler:
- so sad about Bella, even as he's creeping around her bedroom making her husband think a dead trainee was there! Awww.
Re: Hannibal
Yes! I agree with all that.
This show is really doing a good job of building this trippy serial killer world. I think it's the pacing of scenes between this great cast and intriguing characters. Watching them all banter and get closer and entangled, then there's a horrific crime scene, followed by Hannibal being charming and awesome (Mads, marry me) in one-on-one scenes but then he does something very subtle to creep you out and you remember what this show is REALLY about. So far, I fall for the food porn scenes EVERY TIME until it hits me: "OMG, it's made of PEOPLE!". I can't explain it very well, but that feeling of falling for it and getting too comfortably caught up in it all and then OMG, ICK! is why I love this show.

Re: Hannibal
I'm actually rather stuck on the staging in the Crawfords' bedroom - it had to be just Lecter, right, so he came in there with a vacuum cleaner and a baggie with the hair in it, lay down on the bed and deposited body oil and whatnot that Beverly's doohickey detected, and then vacuumed any trace evidence from that, and artfully arranged NotClarice's hairs? While humming a symphony of some kind?

Re: Hannibal
See, what I was trying to figure out was--clearly he left Miriam's hair behind. Clearly he made it look like someone had laid on the bed.
Did he take Miriam's body in there with him?
(Wait, where has Miriam's body been for two years?)

Re: Hannibal
I kind of envision that he had her stashed in a basement alive for a while, because the recording, but how long a while is an open question. I mean, she would be messy.
(Cleo, I'm PevchayaGalka on LJ and my being ridiculously into this show is your fault.)

Re: Hannibal
Hi hi!
I tend to think a freezer was involved. You know he must have, like, five or something in his basement.

Re: Hannibal
His whole basement is probably a state of the art freezer. There has got to be some serious equipment in there, because human bodies are not actually that easy to dismember. (My knowledge of this fact is entirely theoretical).
I'm so mystified by what Lecter was and is playing at with NotClarice, though. If he killed her shortly after he captured her, why did he not commence the mental tormentation of Crawford via the recording until now? If he still hasn't killed her, or only killed her now, again, why hang on to her? If he killed her 2 years ago, why would he keep her on ice for this long?
Lecter, you mysterious creature, you.

Re: Hannibal
Well, here's another question. I'm pretty sure she wasn't actually dead at the end of that scene, just unconscious. Because apparently, there was a point where she thought she had Jack on the phone, but didn't really, and Lecter recorded the whole "I was so wrong" bit. But Jack didn't hear it until two years later, because he genuinely seemed to think she was alive the first time he heard it. So I guess my question is... what?
Fuller mentioned she was a character on another show--Miriam Regina Lass--but went by her middle name on that one? I have no idea what the back story there is.Man, the Lass family cannot catch a break.
Re: Hannibal
...Oh yeah. Totally what.
I didn't even notice because I kept wondering if the "I was so wrong" line was a deliberate homage to Prometheus or not.
Fassbender as Lecter. I am going to meditate on that.
