I didn't want to sound cynical, but I thought the exact same thing when I read the news. I hope they keep going strong though. After all, 42 years seems like more than ample time to figure out if someone is the right person for you!

Well given they are a lesbian couple who lives in California, they have only been legally been allowed to be married for a few months. And many gay people I knew didn't get married during the brief period it was legal a few years ago because of wanting to see how things would shake out. Not to mention many waited until they also had access to federal rights.

We don't know what's going on but what biak said. It's definitely not like they were unmarried for all those years by choice so it might not be the desperate last-chance to hold a relationship together type marriage.

And I'm very irked with the news going on about Wright and Foster's engagement. I've seen three headlines about her younger man. If the genders were reversed I'm sure those headlines wouldn't mention their ages. She's only 14 years older than him and he's in his thirties. Cripes.

Oh, I didn't mean to make it sound like Tomlin and her partner married each other as some last ditch effort or anything because that never crossed my mind. I guess I'm just oddly superstitious so I feel like them getting legally married after 42 years of what I assume to be happy coupling (though obviously they may have wanted to wed a loooong time ago but couldn't) might jinx their partnership. God, "jinxing" in the context of a relationship sounds even more ridiculous when I type it out.

This. Since same-sex marriage has become legal in so many states, I've seen lots of stories of couples who have been together for 20, 30, 40 years getting married now, because they legally can.

I know he's Johnny Depp and all, and he still looks incredibly hot for 50, but in that picture, it looks like Amber is being nice and taking her grandpa out to a movie, or something.

They've probably been dating since they did the Rum Diary together, but they haven't been particularly public. I also think Depp and Paradis were split up for a while before they made the breakup public. But Heard could also predate the split.

And the media probably won't even bat an eye because it's an older man dating a much younger woman. Robin Wright can only hope to not have her age brought up everytime her relationship with Ben Foster is mentioned in the media.
