Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I would love a Black Widow/Hawkeye combo film. Globetrotting espionage and amazing action set pieces! Done right it could be amazing.
I've got to echo what everyone else said about the trailer. Give it to meeeeee now. It looks fantastic.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I'm hoping Hawkeye makes a surprise appearance in this film, not only because of Hawkeye/Black Widow (OTP!), but so Mackie and Renner can be reunited. Quite frankly, they are adorable.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I'll be honest, I get the appeal (and to a certain extent, necessity) of a Black Widow film, but I think the problem is, what made her so interesting in The Avengers was she a relatively normal person against a fantastic backdrop, but in a solo spy film, would be the exact opposite, which is a narrative downgrade. I think Agents of SHIELD shows that Marvel kind of doesn't really have the best handle on its spy stuff.

I have my tickets for Thor 2! Okay, so it's for Monday and the film came out today (Wednesday) but that's the soonest I can see it. God, I miss being in college where things like essays and lectures were no hindrance to me seeing films practically as soon as they came out.
Empire's review of the film is up and they have deemed it worthy of 4 stars out of 5.
Also, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is officially confirmed as Quicksilver in The Avengers 2.

I saw Thor 2 today. It was really good! Better than the first one, IMO. There was a mid-credits scene, but I didn't stay until the very end. Someone else will have to report on if I missed anything.

Yeah, I saw that in an article somewhere. From now on, I'll stay to the absolute finish. It's not like I had anywhere better to be, really.

I can't work out how to do spoilers on my phone, but the 2nd post credits is mostly cute without hinting where the next film might go.

This Probably Doesn't Belong Here But Where Else Would I Put it?
Also: Netflix already gets my money, so this is Shut Up And Keep Taking It.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I stuck it in the Agents of SHIELD thread :P
Very excited about it. I wonder if they'll use it as a backdoor for Doctor Strange? He's the character I most identify with the Defenders' revolving door roster, but I know they want him to be a feature film character. Maybe they'll try him out here first as either a recurring character across the four series or as a guest star for the mini?

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I just got in from seeing the Thor marathon. Wow. I loved Thor 2. It was so much better than the first. I still have some Jane/Natalie Portman issues, though I don't hate her. And my Loki feelings are so complicated.
I have other thoughts but I'm going to see it again on Saturday and let everything kind of settle.
- Spoiler:
- I'm not a Loki apologist. He bugs me with his complaining and always playing the victim but I was so sad when he died and then so happy that he was back, lol. Damn you Hiddles.

Just got back from seeing Thor 2, and really enjoyed it! It was fun and had lots of good moments. My favorite is probably
- Spoiler:
- Loki being Captain America. "Want to have a conversation about truth?" So awesome.

MOAR HEIMDALL! MOAR DARCY!
Other than that, I enjoyed the hell out of it. "Darcy!" "Jane!" "Ian!" "Selvig!" .... "Mew-mew!"
Can't decide if that exchange or the prison break cameo was my favorite moment.
Loved both post-movie scenes. I've never seen Zoolander, but apparently

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Thank you! I was trying to figure out who
- Spoiler:
- was playing The Collector because I knew he looked vaguely familiar. But yup he did look little like http://knithacker.com/html/knithacker/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Mugatu from Zoolander. I think I was the only one who lost her shit when I realized that the Tesseract and the Aether are two of the Infinity Gems. Then again it was a very small group at the theater.
When they were in England I kept waiting for a quick shot out to Captain Britain. Like maybe a mention of a guy named Braddock.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
What was the post-credits scene? I had to pee like crazy after the commercials + trailers + movie. I guess it'll pop up on youtube (link?).
Overall I enjoyed it, definitely better than the the first Thor. I would have liked more Loki and less space ship stuff.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
There were two.
This also has a pretty good explanation about the first post-credit scene: What Did Thor 2’s Post-Credits Scene Mean? Knowing who directed the first one and
- Spoiler:
- The first one shows Sif and Volstagg bringing the Aether to a man who turns out to be the Collector. They say that because they have the Tesseract in the vaults in Asgard it wouldn't be a good idea to have two of the Infinity Gems together so they bring it to the Collector to keep it safe. When they leave he says, "one down, five to go." And I freaked the hell out.
The last one has Jane sitting in her apartment when it starts thundering and she runs outside to see Thor is back. They start kissing. The last shot is back near the warehouse and you see the big beast that came over from Jotun running around trying to catch birds.
This also has a pretty good explanation about the first post-credit scene: What Did Thor 2’s Post-Credits Scene Mean? Knowing who directed the first one and
- Spoiler:
- how it ties into the Guardians of the Galaxy makes a lot of sense about the look of it.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I have wanted to ask about the first credits scene since Monday but the only people I know to ask are US snarkers and ye hadn't seen it yet! So thanks, TiffanyNichelle!
The bit where
I think I want to see this again.
The bit where
- Spoiler:
- Thor is talking to Odin at the end and then Thor walks away and it's revealed he's been talking to Loki all along had my mother whipping her head to glare at me as though I'd deliberately withheld valuable information. It's called being Spoiler Free, woman! Also, that Captain America cameo was so great for being all the more unexpected.
I've always liked Jane and she didn't disappoint in this. Darcy was on top form too. Poor old Eric. Loki really did a number on his noggin. Loved the bit where Thor has to take the Tube to Greenwich mid battle. HAH! I cackled so loud at that, I was not dignified.
I think I want to see this again.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
When
- Spoiler:
- Loki suggested he turn into one of Thor's Earth friends I thought he was going to morph into Iron Man since it would be really easy to throw just anyone into the suit rather than dragging in one of the actors so I was super surprised and happy that he turned into Chris Evans. Did not see that coming and everyone in the audience loved it.

- Spoiler:
- the implication that Captain America did a lot of annoying moralizing in the short time Loki spent as a prisoner on Earth. I don't think any other Avenger would have been as funny in the same way.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Personally, I'm holding out hope that
Christopher Eccleston was criminally underused. At one point I thought, "He spent hours in a makeup chair for this?" Honestly, they could have had anyone in that part. And maybe I've reached the saturation point on superhero movies but I wasn't one bit interested in the entire Dark Elves/superweapon plot trope at all. The opening monologue/explanation from Odin, all I thought was, "Blah, blah - bad guys, MacGuffin, the universe and all life as we know it threatened, there'll be big battles, Thor will save the day, the End." So I was hoping for more but didn't really get it. There were flickers with the interaction between Thor and Loki, and I thought they had some really great moments, but perhaps
I wish
Loki's "Ta-daaa!" was hilarious.
- Spoiler:
- the Thor who shows up in the post-credits scene is actually Loki in disguise.

I wish
- Spoiler:
- Frigga had more of a chance to be awesome and badass before getting killed off. That was disappointing.
- Spoiler:
- the Captain America cameo was about the best thing ever, no question!
Loki's "Ta-daaa!" was hilarious.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I just came back from it, and I LOVED it. I didn't have a problem with how they balanced the humour and the pathos.
Basically, the first thing I said when we left was, "That was SO. MUCH. FUN." And it really was. Thor seems to be the lightest of the Marvel franchises. It entertained me and made me happy. Can't ask for much more than that.
- Spoiler:
- My favourite moments in order:
- Loki's prison break and all the morphs, especially Thor into Sif and Loki himself into Captain America. That was brilliant.
- Frigga's ass-kicking of Malekith prior to her death. Rene Russo is less than six months from turning 60. It's hard to believe.
- Pretty much every scene involving Erik Selvig.
- Also, all scenes involving Chris O'Dowd.
- Thor on the Tube! I cackled really hard at that.
- Everyone throwing things into the convergence, particularly Ian and the keys.
- Heimdall simply existing.
Things I wasn't fond of:
- Why were Sif and the Warriors 3 even in the movie. Hogun got, like, one scene, and the others barely got anymore. It's a criminal waste of Zach Levi.
- A similar problem that I had with Iron Man 3 - why isn't SHIELD ever around when you need it?
- What happened to Odin? Did Loki kill him? I thought we were supposed to think that he changed, at least a little.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I think that's what I liked about it. Despite some of the darker stuff, it was fun. There wasn't a lot funny stuff in Avengers and Iron Man 3 (where you could usually count on Tony Stark to bring the quips) had a darker tone to it because Tony was still dealing with the effects of everything that happened in Avengers.
But here they still made time to make it fun and not just dark and broody
I just got back from seeing it again.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I saw it last night, and it was so much fun! Beyond the first ten minutes with the backstory, I enjoyed the whole thing. The Avengers is still my favorite entry in the MCU, but Thor 2 is probably 2nd.
Regarding
I like that Jane did end up
Also,
Regarding
- Spoiler:
- the Captain America cameo, apparently Chrises Evans and Hemsworth didn't film it together, but rather, Hiddleston put on the suit and did an impression of Captain America.. The image of that is delightful. Please, please be on the DVD.
I like that Jane did end up
- Spoiler:
- saving the day by disrupting the energy, but for the rest of the movie, she was pretty mopey and had to be saved a bunch of times.
Also,
- Spoiler:
- not to be too ONTD about this, but I was NOT impressed by Frigga's death. She went out like a badass, but it felt like it was only there so Thor would have an excuse to forgive Loki. Her death became all about their MANPAIN. I wish Jane had had even a line about how she felt about being the indirect cause for the death of Thor's mother. Eh.
