Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I was rooting for Edgar Ramirez but I have to say...I know people are not fans of Joaquin's here...but I do think he might be the best actor of his generation. He's douchey but I'd be super interested in this.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Joaquin is pretty much the one thing that would kill my interest in the movie. I didn't like him before Her, but that sad-eyed poster with the pornstache has ruined him completely for me. I watched Gladiator a few weeks back and even there it was all I could see.

Her was one of my favourite movies of last year, lol.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I probably will check it out eventually; but while I would have jumped at it with almost any other actor (non-military sci-fi drama! we need more of that!), his participation kept me away.

I find him so talented that I forget what a mess he is off screen. I didn't enjoy the master for example but his performance was so arresting to me.

He is SUCH an off-the-wall choice for this kind of movie that I kinda dig it? Although that may be that I'm just totally sick of Cumberbatch.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Guardians of the Galaxy was SO worth the wait, although I'm a little bit disappointed that there were no ultra-cool closing credit sequences. The post-credit scene's following with the latest batch and not really giving much away for the next movie, but one guy was REALLY upset to realize that
- spoiler:
- it was Howard the Duck.

I feel like I have a lot to say about how much I enjoyed this movie, but all that's coming out right now is GROOT. GROOT GROOT GROOT.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I think Gunn made the right choice loading the credits at the front of the movie (a first for Marvel, I think). Sure, we didn't get anything as cool and awesome as the Avengers' gear or the silhouettes of Winter Soldier, but watching Chris Pratt groove to "Come and Get Your Love" was so worth it. I just know that when the logo appeared, it was so perfectly timed and that tiny image of Chris Pratt beneath it still dancing had me in stitches.
I thought both end credit scenes were solid gold.
I thought both end credit scenes were solid gold.
- Spoiler:
- Baby Groot was sooooooooooooooooooooo effing adorable. And the timing on Drax shooting him a look and him freezing up... basically, everything Dave Bautista had to do or say was pretty hilarious and perfectly timed.
"WE. ARE. GROOT." Dammit, James Gunn, why you gotta make me get choked up over a tree and a scavenger? And then dammit, James Gunn, again when the Guardians all stood together to take down Ronan with the Stone. And then just fucking kill me, James Gunn, with Drax petting Rocket and Rocket liking it.
And HOWARD THE DUCK. Oh my god. That was just amazing. I think if Marvel went small and just did a buddy comedy with Cosmo and Howard, I would love it.

- Spoiler:
- Chris Pratt distracting Ronan with the dance-off....and Ronan having the appropriate WTF? reaction
Groot--it's all about Groot. Really beautiful CG/animation and fantastic voice work (no really, he only says I Am Groot but there are tonal shifts!)
Also loving Bradley Cooper's Rocket
- Spoiler:
- His drunk monologue is both heartbreaking and hilarious
The one quibble (and I have a feeling that the scenes were trimmed for time):
- Spoiler:
- More Benicio as The Collector!

I am so excited this is finally out so I can talk about it! I'm seeing it tomorrow morning, but I saw a test screening way back in May and couldn't tell anyone how fantastic it was. It will be interesting to see what was changed - I'll tell you if
- Spoiler:
- the Benicio as Collector scenes are cut down from what they were.

I had the day off. so after running a few errands, I went to see this. Such fun. Chris Pratt, and the rest of cast were perfection, and I now heart Groot.

That voice....
- Spoiler:
- So apparently, the voice of Howard is Seth Green. Which... of course it is. I can't believe I didn't recognize it the first time.

The biggest laugh in my theater came from Zoe Saldana:
Small quibble. Did Drax call Gamora

- Spoiler:
- a "green whore" just before he shot Nebula? Because if so, ew. It doesn't even make sense for someone as literal as Drax to say that, because he knows Gamora isn't.

BrightEyes.
- Spoiler:
- Sorry, he did. Why, I don't know. Gamora hadn't had sex in the movie, let alone for money. She was selling the Infinity Gem to the Collector for money, but so were Peter, Rocket, and Groot. That's just a legitimate business deal, not whoring yourself out. Something to do with how she was turing traitor against Ronan? I dunno.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
I suppose if one wants to
- Spoiler:
- rationalize how the need to make a misogynistic remark would transcend Drax's genetic/social inclination towards literalism*, I wouldn't be surprised if the wretched hive that made up Drax's community looks at a bunch of a women that are clearly not related calling each other "sister", and probably rumor they're some kind of harem, and Drax would take them at their word. That is, if you want to, as opposed to writing it off as poor taste.
*I don't know if it's supposed to be a reveal for future movies, or a change from the comics, but let's just say Drax isn't what he seems.

Re: The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Very poor word choice. I think the intent is to show Drax doing something then have Nebula do the same thing and have Drax get defensive. But to that end, almost any other insult would have worked better for character and taste reasons.

So, is Quill's ship "The Milano" because he was a cookie fan, or a Who's The Boss fan?

I vehemently objected to that at the test screening I went to, but obviously to deaf ears. It's just so unnecessary, and not funny. Why alienate female fans with no upside? And as you said, if Drax is supposed to be literal then nothing in the movie would cause him to use that word.

He was the right age at the right time to think Alyssa Milano was the greatest thing on Earth (since I was roughly that age at that time). No question.

It's been confirmed it's because of Allyssa.
GoG succeeded where Heavy metal and The 5th Element failed
I bought Awesome Mix and I'm surprised they haven't confirmed a sequel yet.
Love Bennicio's take on the Collector being Liberace.
