Loving Rihanna's Talk That Talk. Not ashamed.

Re: What Are You Listening To?
I've randomly gotten addicted to Covert Affairs recently and I cannot stop listening to the theme song, "Can You Save Me" by POWER and another song they played in one of the episodes, a cover of Warren Zevon's "Searching for a Heart" by Rebecca Pidgeon. Yay, for random song obsessions!

Re: What Are You Listening To?
After initially being underwhelmed by Ceremonials, I now can't stop listening to it. I adore pretty much every track besides "Remain Nameless" and "Leave My Body," neither of which I can stand to listen to because they bore me so much.

I just downloaded the best of Dionne Warwick and have been really enjoying Do You Know the Way to San Jose, I Say a Little Prayer for You and so many other songs. Love her voice.

I am digging El Camino, the the new Black Keys album, so hard. "Gold On the Ceiling" is probably my fave along with "Lonely Boy" and "Run Right Back."

I'm enjoying this album, too, and also favor "Gold On the Ceiling." It's got a groovy, Zeppelin-like throwback vibe that I completely dig. In addition to the tracks that you mentioned, I like "Little Black Submarines" off the bat as well.whatthedeuce wrote:I am digging El Camino, the the new Black Keys album, so hard. Re: What Are You Listening To?
I love the idea of "Black Submarines" going from acoustic to electric, but I kinda wish the whole thing were electric. The first part sounds beautiful but bores me a bit, honestly. Still, I think it's an excellent song, overall.

Seconding (or thirding or fourthing) the El Camino love. That album is totally solid from start to finish. Groovy stuff.

I love that all the songs are uptempo. None of the slow stuff that I hate to admit I usually skip on the Keys albums.

Re: What Are You Listening To?
The first half of the song definitely isn't as exciting as the second. But the combination of the two is what really makes the song work for me and gives it more punch. Strangely, it also reminds me of a Led Zeppelin song that starts slow but builds in tempo and volume by the end: "Stairway to Heaven."whatthedeuce wrote:I love the idea of "Black Submarines" going from acoustic to electric, but I kinda wish the whole thing were electric. I do miss the bluesy aspects that are lacking on El Camino, but also love that the songs are all uptempo. It's easily The Black Keys' most straight-up rocking and accessible album.

Re: What Are You Listening To?
Funny enough, I was listening to the album again yesterday after I'd replied to your post, and I realized that I liked "Black Submarines" more upon that millionth time of hearing it. Weird, huh? I do miss the bluesy vibe isn't so apparent because I do appreciate that aspect of their older work. However, it's just such a fun album with great energy and no slower pauses, which is why I enjoy it a lot. Brothers was awesome, but it felt uneven because most of the harder, faster stuff was in the first handful of songs, and then the tempo got turned all the way down and the rest was much slower and mellower (with the exception of "Sinister Kid").

I finally managed to stop listening to "Lonely Boy", only for this to take over my brain. I've lost count of how many times I've listened to it this evening.

Re: What Are You Listening To?
This song has not left my brain for over two weeks. I sing it in the shower. I wail it in the kitchen while I cook. I hum it to myself at the grocery store. There is NO ESCAPE. But I love it, so it's cool.leone wrote:I finally managed to stop listening to "Lonely Boy", only for this to take over my brain. I've lost count of how many times I've listened to it this evening.

Re: What Are You Listening To?
There are way worse things to get stuck in your brain than Black Keys tunes, that's for sure! I think I might just envy those of you who have "Lonely Boy" repeating in your minds.

"Release the Bats", by The Birthday Party. It's like Elvis came back as a zombie and ate the lead singer of Linkin Park.

Re: What Are You Listening To?
I've fallen in love with Jessie Baylin and her Mazzy Star by way of Nashville sound, even if her melodramatic story about waiting out the uncertain release of Little Spark doesn't strike quite the same chord when you find out she's married to a King of Leon.
Re: What Are You Listening To?
M.I.A. is a bit hit-and-miss for me, but I'm really enjoying her new song Bad Girls, and the video is amazing.

Holst's Jupiter the Bringer of Jollity. Just wanted to hear it, but I'm not sure why.
