Upcoming Films

With Summit in charge I don't exactly hold high hopes for the movie, though I loved the book.

First clip from Brave. I am not sure it is humanly possible for me to be more excited for this movie.

My attraction to him is something I can't even fathom. He looks like the male version of the baby mutant thing from Splice and yet I am like "Yeah you could get it."

Also, this movie is turning out to be geek girl porn. Karl Urban, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Quinto. CHOOOOOOOOO! and now Paddy Jo? Oh hell...it's like Lord of the Rings. In space.

Can't wait for this movie to come out. Will have to dig out my Star Trek unbobbleheads from Burger King. My husband has already started grumbling about the sequel, but he is insane re: Star Trek, so I'll just have to see it on my own.

Spoiler-wise, it looks like he's definitely not a Klingon. I'm definitely very interested to see what they do with the villain in this one.

He's wearing the black "cadet" shirt that Kirk had in the last movie. I'm wondering if he might be that one guy - Finney or Finnigan, I can never remember - who Kirk turned in for cheating and then tried to frame Kirk for his own murder. Or the other guy that Kirk kept seeing on the holodeck planet who kept trying to prank him.

Kirk pissed off a lot of people at the Academy in the original timeline, and in that one he was a bookish, quiet nice guy during his time at the Academy. I can't imagine how many people he might have pissed off in the New Timeline.

I am still super excited for Brave. But I have to say that clip was more generic than I was hoping that film would be. e.g. Did they really have to go with that kilt joke? And I was hoping we had a female warrior princess character (since I knew they'd decided princess) where the conflict is not from family (sorry, her mother) wanting her to be "ladylike" but from a more general concern, like maybe that they don't mind her personality, but do worry for her safety (just like they would a warrior son). And then major conflict is from the outside that the earlier posters suggested. That said, I will trust Pixar and think the film will be bigger than that clip suggests.

Maybe I'm just being curmudgeonly.

Actually, that clip sparked a good discussion between fiance and I about how, to our recollection, How to Train Your Dragon was a great example of a film that showed gender equality without actually making it a big point of plot. Unless I'm misremembering...

No, I would agree on How to Train Your Dragon. The boys and girls were all in dragon training together, and it was never remarked on as unusual. Astrid is top of the class until Hiccup starts studying dragon habits through his friendship with Toothless. Historically accurate? Well, honestly I don't know enough about Viking social structure, but I would guess no. But a welcome change for a moviegoer? Absolutely. I like that more than the standard "a GIRL has to be a LADY!" plot, which Brave is looking a bit too much like for my taste. But like you, I'll give it a chance.

If he was Gary Mitchell, I wouldn't complain.

Other things I wouldn't complain about: Zoe Saldana in 23rd Century fashion. Mmm.

I think this is the correct thread for this, and I don't remember us discussing the fact that there is "absolutely" going to be a Wet Hot American Summer 2, potentially taking place in the same summer.
It's either going to be the greatest film ever, or the worst.

First pic from the set of Lone Ranger and all I can say is WTF!

I remember hearing vaguely about a Lone Ranger movie, but I didn't know it was actually happening. It's Jack Sparrow with feathers! I didn't realize he was playing Tonto: I would have expected the Lone Ranger. I know nothing about who has played Tonto in the past, but I do know the character is Native American: wouldn't they have cast a native actor?

I believe Depp has some Cherokee ancestry. How much, I don't know.
