Re: Death Pool
His liver lived to be about 160.
Shame he never won an Oscar, but his career was brilliant without it.
His the obvious candidate for last on the Oscar montogue.

Also, Tom Laughlin, independent film pioneer and creator and portrayer of the iconic 60s/70s character "Billy Jack".

Well now she has to live for another year. They can't possibly be in the same Oscar 'In Memoriam!'

Re: Death Pool
Is it horrible that after hearing about Fontaine my first reaction was "Olivia wins?" Maybe now she'll speak out about the feud, although I doubt it. People were classier back then.

Is there really anything to say though? I don't think there was anything more to it really except they were competitive

Re: Death Pool
Well, they claimed at one time there was no feud, but then apparently when their mother died, one of them did not invite the other one to the funeral. I just wonder if they had regrets about it.

If they had regrets, they had plenty of time to patch things up. Living to 96 & 97 and staying estranged is commitment
Re: Death Pool
Elderly women can be VERY committed to their grudges. I think they just get into the habit and forget to break out of it. I remember us going to Connemara back when Momo was in her nineties and Momo said as we passed a particular house on the way to her brother's place, "I wish I had some stones". My mother asked her why and Momo replied that she didn't like the people in that house from when she was growing up (bear in mind, she hadn't lived in Connemara since the 1930's and this was 2001 - it could have been ANYBODY living in the house at that point) and she wanted to fire stones at them. My mother sped up the car and took a different road back on the way home.

Now I have just pictured Momo in a feud with Mam from Beauty Queen of Leenane. (Everything I know about Connemara/Galway I learned from Martin McDonagh.)

I love that, allegedly, Olivia's only comment when told of her sister's death was, "Quitter."

So true. My grandmother was seriously committed to her grudges. You knew it was still going on if, when speaking about someone she didn't like, she would turn her nose up and in her Italian accent she would just snap "Good luck to him!" It was hilarious.
Re: Death Pool
Completely. My grandmother would totally do the sign of the evil eye whenever an ex-friend was mentioned. Kind of hilarious and scary at the same time.

Re: Death Pool
My grandmother was the same way. My grandfather told her to not be friends with someone anymore, and decades later, and after he died, when someone brought that person up she would stick by not seeing them.

Re: Death Pool
My grandmother and her sister had such a long running feud, over something so stupid that was fanned by their own mother (she didn't think sisters should be friends, WTF) that my grandmother didn't learn about her sister's death until after the funeral had happened per the family's wishes. There were no regrets expressed.

Who knows, maybe it was just a giant show, at least for the last couple of decades, heh

Also dying this week was Harold Camping, the idiot evangelist who twice predicted the apocalypse in 2011. Got it wrong both times.

Unconfirmed but seeing reports on twitter that Ned Vizzini died. Really sad if true. He's only 32.
