Hahaha, that is hilarious, UB.
I'm sure you would have been next on DD's list though.

Um, excuse me, I was next on his list. It's a really good thing Doug Hutchinson's marriage didn't happen back then, because I would have seen it as proof that a teenage girl and a grown man could be IN LOVE instead of recognizing it as the abjectly creepy thing that it is.

Didn't we have Woody Allen for that, or was she not actually a teenager when they married?

Holy shit, you guys, Andrew Blake, aka thanfiction, nee Amy Player and Victoria Bitter and Jordan Wood is back, trying to get money together to put on a live action role playing event for Supernatural fans out in the woods. If that sounds insane, it is. And there's SO MUCH MORE crazy.

That sounds like a one-way ticket to Murdertown, with a possible detour through Having-Your-Organs-Sold-on-Craigslist Village.

I can't believe there are people in internet fandom who don't know who this guy is. Then I remember that I am, in internet years, pterodactyl-aged, and that people now in fandom may very well have been in half-day kindergarten when I was watching LOTRgate go down in college. At least that entire post is like NO NO NO HERE HAVE SOME EVIDENCE KIDS so that's good.

Seriously! I can just imagine the event culminating in actual ritual human sacrifice, in order to give the whole thing a real sense of authenticity.

Even without his layers of crazy, it sounds a little like that.

Re: Psychotic Fans
I learned about all of this here, and I started following Abbie on Tumblr (his partner who got away and wrote all the posts about Tentmoot, etc.), and she regularly responds to Asks/messages she gets about him. So when I saw this was happening, I felt similarly flabbergasted. Like, how does anyone NOT KNOW about him??? But then in the notes to this post, I saw someone who wrote something like, "Well, I've been following him for a year and have never seen anything weird so I think he's fine now and everyone's overreacting." So, that's how this keeps happening.Cynara wrote:I can't believe there are people in internet fandom who don't know who this guy is. Last week in Target, I saw there was a book about the Supernatural fandom called Fangasm, and I hauled ass outta the aisle to get away from any psycho vibes it might emit.

Re: Psychotic Fans
Speaking of Supernatural, what is it about that show, or more specifically, Jensen Ackles, that brings out the insanity?
It's a low-budget horror show on a netlet, starring a former soap opera pretty boy, but it has an outsized screaming legion of crazed fans who invade bb's like TWOP and IMDB to insist that 'he's the best actor evah!!11!!', and that he was robbed of an Emmy, and that if it weren't for his cruel, forced servitude on SPN, Jensen would be bigger that Brad Pitt!

Re: Psychotic Fans
He's hot. Super hot guys bring out the crazy.
Michael Muhney (aka Sheriff Lamb from Veronica Mars) got fired from Young and the Restless for feeling up a co-star, and there are so many gems from the fans defending him. I read one post on twop that was all "it's not like he was trying to force herself on him like Clinton did with Monica". And he's not even that hot and he's got fans defending his skeeviness. So it's magnified to like 10 times that with a dude who looks like Jensen.
and also the fact that he's on a cult show adds to it. He's more accessible to fans, so they feel like they know him more.

He's been on cult shows for YEARS, too, and the crazy has followed him. Plus, they do lots of conventions and meet-and-greets with fans which gives them the sense that they know him personally.

Re: Psychotic Fans
Abigail Stone? throws grenade and runs  Seriously, I have been in multiple fandoms, RPGs, fantasy and Snarkfest, but never once was I forced to move, change my name, gender and eyecolour, live on the street, or con people out of their money while faking my death on the internet.
And certainly not dressed as Harry Potter. Â Introversion has its perks.
ETA: My apologies to Abby-I thought she was the one I thought was Victoria. Between Andy and Ms. Scribe it is hard to keep track.

Poor Jensen. Not only has the CW forced him to marry a woman and have children with her to cover up his true love with Jared, they also are forcing him to stay on the show when he could be a WAY bigger star. I wonder if the WB used to be this powerful, or if it was the merger that created the super powerful One Network to Rule Them All.

Don't you know that Jared's older kid is really his and Jensen's love child? At least according to some fans, presumably the ones who think that A/B/O fic is real. I felt dirty just typing that.

RPF is so squickt. I know it is the same as gossip with a fanfiction app added, but It just A'int right.

Re: Psychotic Fans
A/B/O is the scourge of the fanfic world. Especially in fandoms where it makes less than zero sense. Apparently you can get a plug-in for your browser that will strip out any A/B/O fic results from AO3.

Re: Psychotic Fans
I mean it was weird, but I've seen weird/weirder. It's just that all this A/B/O stuff seems . . . . VERY complicated. It's like, oh this dude can get pregnant but if you're an omega you can get pregnant AND self-lubricate AND are eligible for one time only tax deductible refund.

Re: Psychotic Fans
I guess I'm just not that well-versed in fanfic oddities so the complexity of that specific trope weirded me out, esp. the stuff about "bitch males" getting pregnant.

Re: Psychotic Fans
Well it is pretty weird. But to bring the topic back to Supernatural again, heh, to be fair to all this a/m/o/b/fgjdkljdfl stuff I guess it isn't any weirder than wincest. Although I did skim over the "bitch male" part
