Re: Psychotic Fans
How do people not get that fic written about celebs should never be given to the celebs themselves? I guess it's okay if the fic is funny, but the sexual ones are just creepy. If I were a celeb, I wouldn't want to know how often or graphically a random fan thinks of me or my sex life. And that twincest shit is especially creepy. Who wants to know that there are fans dreaming of them having sex with their own goddamn twin?!

Forgive this blast from the past:
Fast forward to today, I only have about ten episodes to go til I'm caught up with all the episodes. I thought I'd start making inroads on the whole saga, now that I at least know who everyone is (last time I was all Ruby who?). AND IT'S GONE! GONE! I have been denied the crazy!
EDIT: HA! Jokes on me! I tried again, and it was there! Excuse me, I have some time to waste...
You guys!! I'm so upset! I've been making my way through Supernatural for the last couple of months (I love it! It got so much better after the first season!) When this first got posted back in June, I'd only just started watching, so I read/skimmed with one eye closed as it were to try avoid too many major show spoilers.swsa wrote:
Also, someone put together a 10-part timeline of the Js' lurve, and it is EXHAUSTIVE and hilarious.

Re: Psychotic Fans
Catching up here--I did actually watch the rest of that part when it first hit Tumblr. He smoothly changes it to, "So what are my thoughts on fanfiction? I'm glad you asked." Apparently he had said something a while back that people interpreted as "disrespectful to people who write fanfiction"? He does not want them to think that, he understands why they like it and respects that, but he has absolutely no interest in it. He also thinks that Kirk and Spock ("and DEFINITELY me and Chris") are "only good friends," and that fanfiction says more about the person who writes it than who they're writing it about.Instant Monkeys wrote:AAAGGGGHHHHH DON'T DO THAT.
I also kind of want to know what happens in the rest of the video but do not dare to watch it for fear of secondhand-embarassment-induced death.
Given how a lot of fans (particularly in years back) seem(ed) to think that writing slash fic was supportive of actors they decided were totally gay and oppressed and/or in love with each other, I'm wondering if they think that he will somehow appreciate their noble efforts towards acceptance.Poor Quinto seems to be dealing with this kind of question more often than others. I cannot really remember other actors (aside from the SPN people, maybe?) having Real Person Fiction shown/given/posed to them. Is it because he's openly gay? I feel like this is probably more annoying to him than if he was straight.
Re: Psychotic Fans
Even recently, I think the SPN_gossip folks were conjuring up images of Jared and Jensen reading J2 slash fic to each other over the breakfast table; I can imagine poor Quinto gets bombarded with some of that as well, even if the Trekkie folks are generally more together than the J2 people (because who's not).

Re: Psychotic Fans
Yeah, I think I remember something like that too. In fact I'm pretty sure he was given a vibrator or something like that by a fan too. And on the mortifying scale, I think it's slightly less mortifying to hand to a celebrity than RPF, but only slightly. Only slightly, my friends.I could swear I remember Michael Rosenbaum being given some Clex fic by fans. Which is maybe not quite as mortifying as RPF? I don't know.

I think Michael Rosenbaum was giving a box of sex toys at a charity event, maybe a charity hockey game?

I am simultaneously morbidly fascinated by these stories and also overcome by second hand embarrassment for these people. What do they think is going to happen when they do this stuff? What kind of reaction are they imagining they're going to get? In their heads is Rosenbaum going shake them by the hand and profusely thank them for gifting him the dildo of his dreams? Or is Zachary Quinto or either Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki going to suddenly and spontaneously recount the story of their tragic on-set gay love affair, which bloomed briefly only to be brutally smothered by the callous true-love-hating showbiz suits. What is their best case scenario for this stuff?

oh, man, I just cackled. And I don't think if they THINK that will happen, but they really really hope that's gonna be the result. Although there's probably a one or two that really think that will happen. In their heads is Rosenbaum going shake them by the hand and profusely thank them for gifting him the dildo of his dreams?

Re: Psychotic Fans
If they're rational (at all), I honestly think it's "My favorite will laugh and make a joke that can be used to fuel my tin hat fantasies for the next 6 months!" Then they can go back to the fandom community that encouraged them to do something insane and have the motivation/experience validated all over again. I don't think the actual reaction (aside from Spock being genuinely pissy at them - which makes them mad/hurt feefees) is what they're after, it's the opportunity to recount the act in the only context where it makes any sense - tinhat fandom.Melk wrote:I am simultaneously morbidly fascinated by these stories and also overcome by second hand embarrassment for these people. What was Rosenbaum's reaction to the box-o-dildos? I thought I heard it creeped him out (naturally).

I think you're right -- that, or some sort of embarrassed being caught off-guard/making some face that indicates that just maybe MAYBE there is something to it and you, the insightful fan, have cracked it (either voluntary like a wink or involuntary like embarrassed laughter/blushing). And then, yeah, they can go back to the fandom and be hailed as a hero.Binky wrote:If they're rational (at all), I honestly think it's "My favorite will laugh and make a joke that can be used to fuel my tin hat fantasies for the next 6 months!" Re: Psychotic Fans
I can't find the Fandom Wank write-up of the whole thing, but I seem to recall him being polite, and the givers of the sex toy box (I sort of remember the items included) read this as "he totally loved it!" And then the rest of the fandom was appalled, and tried to explain to them how Not On the whole thing was, and they didn't want to hear it. Part of this might have actually taken place on the TWOP forums, I can't remember.Binky wrote:What was Rosenbaum's reaction to the box-o-dildos? I thought I heard it creeped him out (naturally).

And for the ones who think their subjects are being forced to hide their ~true feelings~ by the Evil Producers, I think they want to show the actors that they're in on the secret and they support them.

Re: Psychotic Fans
Oh, by the way, here's a couple of comments on the entry:
And, re: This Sort of Thing Generally:
There's some pretty freaky posts over at naughty-seduction.net from the smut box chicks, boasting about how cool and brave they were for giving the smut box to MR and how the people who are complaining about the smut box are just jealous because they aren't brave enough to do such a supposedly cool thing. Oh, and apparently liking slash is much more "dirty" than giving a complete stranger porn material. Yeah...whatever.
The thing that floors me is: if they'd handed him the check, the card and the hockey jersey and just LEFT IT AT THAT, they would've done a really nice thing and made it a great day for everybody. But noooooooo, they have to try to be "cool," and yeah, if cool equates with moronic, then so be it.
And, re: This Sort of Thing Generally:
I saw it at a Hercules and Xena con. Some woman dressed in essentially bits of gauze assaulted Ted Raimi on stage and gave him fuzzy handcuffs and some other stuff and declared herself 'the high priestess of his temple of lusty not-virgins' and a bunch of other not-safe-for-a-family-affair stuff. She was escorted offstage by security.
Re: Psychotic Fans
See...yeah. It's not about not being yourself. It's about knowing how to dial it back when polite society calls for that. Not doing that doesn't make you a brave sexy cool badass, it makes you a weirdo who doesn't understand appropriate social behavior and makes everyone uncomfortable. That sort of stuff makes me very, very tired.PrincessCleo wrote:And, re: This Sort of Thing Generally:I saw it at a Hercules and Xena con. From Jezebel today: An article about how Twitter (in particular) is making the boundaries between celebrities and fans a little fuzzy, for young fans in particular.

Re: Psychotic Fans
Oh, I was gonna post a warning about that, actually. :/ It's mentioned in the article how some crazy teenager threatens to harm her dog if somebody from One Direction doesn't follow her on Twitter. And then posts a picture of herself with what she claims is her dead dog. BECAUSE PSYCHO. (People in the comments seem to know of this girl and think the dog thing is totally fake because she's done it multiple times. So it sounds like no dogs were actually harmed.) That's all it is, a mention, but it caught me off guard too.

Re: Psychotic Fans
I'm so glad to hear the dog thing is (probably) fake, because I've been telling myself that ever since I read it on ONTD. I needed to know that it was fake, or that the police showed up on her doorstep shortly afterward to arrest her for animal cruelty.

Re: Psychotic Fans
that reminds me of this article my friend linked to a bit ago:MtOlivePickles wrote:A UK network aired a documentary called Crazy for One Direction, and fan art of members Louis and Harry (their ship name? Larry Stylinson) were shown, and one of the fans was shown reading exerts from fan fiction about the two. 1D fans were upset by the fans shown in the documentary--there were some girls doing more extreme things, like tracking down group member's family homes, or lurking through hotels that they were rumored to be staying in, knocking on doors in hopes of meeting them, and some doing more benign things, like saying that they dreamed of marrying a favorite member, or ranting about not being able to get tickets to the show. But a lot of people took umbrage with the "Larry" part, which supposedly drove anywhere from 14 to 90 Larry fans to commit suicide.
This is making me so glad that Twitter wasn't around during the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC days.

I like all of it, but this was good
BSB rarely shared their innermost feelings with us, because they didn’t have Twitter accounts we could follow. Consider how you would feel if you had to go without that kind of relentless access to the boys of One Direction. We couldn’t beg the BSB guys for a follow, or ask them to retweet a message for their Brazilian fans. They were too far removed to touch — whether virtually or otherwise. The fan mail went unreturned. The screams went unanswered. And that was OK, because it was all we knew. But you have more of a chance of reaching Harry Styles than I ever did of complimenting Howie Dorough on his Roswell cameo. It might feel hopeless to you — “Will you ever notice me?” — but remember how lucky you are

Re: Psychotic Fans
I watched Roswell and loved BSB at that time (though Nsync was number one to me), and was so hyped for that cameo and it ended up all he did was look up at the sky and go "and it begins." and then was NEVER SEEN AGAIN. Genie Francis did it better tbh.
And I am reminded again how glad I am that twitter was not around when I was a tween. I remember creating an elaborate psychotic plan so I could be the first to get my hands on the school librarys copy of Seventeen that Leonardo DiCaprio was on the cover. In my eyes that interview would give me the insight to win Leo over and have him fall head over heels for me when we inevitably met. And then when I did get the seventeen being chased around the schoolyard by five other rabid Leo fangirls. I also had a cultish photo album that I called "My Leo Book". I covered the cover with pictures of him and on the inside was every cut out picture and Leo sticker I had along with letters to him, and interviews and any factoid about him I could write down (did you know Leo was kicked off Romper Room?). I owned five unauthorized biographys you guys. Five.
I shudder when I imagine if twitter was around then and he was using it the same he was now, as a "listen to me talk about the environment" platform and I responded to every tweet about recycling with all caps declarations of love.

See, if we had had twitter we could have tweeted about how awesome he was and we probably could have drummed up enough fan support to get him a recurring role. Nah, I probably would have been like HOW DARE YOU RUIN THE INTEGRITY OF ROSWELL WITH A BSB CAMEO NOW THE SHOW IS RUINED.I watched Roswell and loved BSB at that time (though Nsync was number one to me), and was so hyped for that cameo and it ended up all he did was look up at the sky and go "and it begins." and then was NEVER SEEN AGAIN. Oh now that was a show I had a psychotic love for. I am so glad twitter wasn't around because if my msn messenger convos are to be considered I would have harassed poor emilie de ravin for daring to be Tess. As it was that fandom was the first experience I had with crazy forums and deranged shippers. I remember the names. Alex and Isabel were the stargazers.

And Michael and Maria were the Candy... somethings. For M&Ms!
That show was my first crazy fandom. I met Brendan Fehr at Six Flags, guys. And was mad he wouldn't hug all the girls in the autograph line! Also, I had a giant blow-up alien. I'm so glad Twitter didn't exist because my fanfic was embarrassing enough.

Re: Psychotic Fans
Yes! And apparently everyone meangirled Emilie De Ravin and Behr and Heigl were engaged on and off for most of the shows run. As such I remember they had incesty chemistry. And Majandra Delfino and Brendan Fehr dated for several years.
Brendan Fehr had lived in Winnipeg and someone got his aunts phone number somehow and we once called that poor woman and asked if Brendan was home. Thank God we had a teacher who was like what in the hell are you doing?
My internet home used to be Crashdown.com. Does anyone remember that site? I burned up their forums when Alex died. And then when during his death investigation Maria and Liz stopped to groove to a free concert by Nelly Furtado. And then when Isabel showed up with that awful Jesse. The third season of that show was pretty atrocious.
