Re: Upcoming Films
I feel like comfortingly telling the 50 Shades fans who tweet "This is not who I pictured as Ana/Christian!" that it's most likely a good thing, girl, and handing them a reviving cup of camomile tea.
Charlie Hunnam portrays violence in a downright frightening way, without much in the way of animal sexual power (though he's quite hot stuff the rest of the time). The book (in truth, I finished about 1/2 of the first one then googled a synopsis for the rest) apparently misrepresents sub-dom relationships, maybe so maybe this casting will make a less sexy movie than EL James intended.
Ian Somerhalder was kind of adorable in how desperately public his pursuit of the role was, but did Matt Bomer ever express interest, did he even audition? I got the impression that he was being polite to his fans by not denying his involvement outright.

Re: Upcoming Films
That was my impression. I feel like Bomer and Henry Cavill both just tried to side step the issue. Whereas people like Emma Watson, Armie Hammer, Elizabeth Olsen were just like "Hahahahahaha. No."
I'd love to find out how many names they went through. Both just in the wishful thinking stages and in who they actually made offers to.
Matt Bomer has been trending on twitter since the announcement was made, which is just...a LOT of outrage. Hee.

I couldn't agree more. I like Ian Somerhalder's passion for saving animals and cleaning up the ocean and whatnot, but I did have to laugh when someone on ONTD said he must be crying into his environmentally friendly pillow.whatthedeuce wrote:Somerhalder would have been perfect for the cheesebomb that movie will undoubtedly be. Pretty boy who also looks menacing in a laughable way.
I was thinking about it last night, and I can't even imagine how this movie's going to play out. On the one hand, it's pure porn with basically very little story of interest, and then on the other, I've heard they want to try to make it with an R rating, so how would that work?
Eh...whatever. I don't know a whole lot about either of the two leads, other than that Dakota Johnson is Don and Melanie's daughter. I'm just thankful it's not Dakota Fanning, which is what I thought too when I first saw the "Dakota" in the headlines. I can't imagine I'd go see this thing willingly anyway, except when it appears in the library in DVD form. Free.

Re: Upcoming Films
Apparently Chris Hemsworth's name was also bandied about for a while. At the London premiere of his upcoming movie Rush, Hemsworth had this to say:
"I keep hearing that rumour too. My friend’s sister read it and was like, ‘Yuck, I can’t think of Chris like that’. I think everyone’s name is in that hat."
Even if I didn't already love him, I'd love him for that "yuck!"
Also, speaking of his new movie, the first reviews for Rush are in, and so far, they're really good. Yay!

My favorite reaction was Julianne Moore, who wasn't even reacting on her own behalf, but on Alexander Skarsgaard's. And I love how it looks like they were trying to drag her away as she was insulting it. Hee.

Re: Upcoming Films
I can't imagine why she pictured Rob as her Christian? Wait....could it be because she shameless did a 'find and replace' on her Twilight fanfiction??
I just want to imagine how much shit Charlie Hunnam is getting on the Sons of Anarchy set. Because you know those guys are never going to stop torturing him. I only hope they film them for a blooper reel.

Sadly the party part is true. She was even seen talking to Warren Beatty there. She seems to have figured out how to leverage her status to get into these things. There are pics of her at a Labor Day party at Katy Perry's talking with Ellen Page yesterday too. Somewhere Cassie Clare is seething.

Oh lord, it hadn't occurred to me that Hunnam would obviously have to face the SoA cast and crew after the announcement. He's in for a world of grief, that guy!

Thanks for that link! Some of the comments were great, one of which linked to this blog, which recaps the book. This is the next best thing to PrincessCleo tackling it!draco vulgaris wrote:The AV Club's response to the casting news.

Re: Upcoming Films
I assume Kelly Marcel wasn't allowed to touch the dialogue much with the author looking over her shoulder the whole time. When it sinks, it won't matter much for Charlie Hunnam. Though he'll be a household name for the wrong reasons, he's still got Guillermo and FX and his Apatow friends to employ him. It's a shame E L James (seriously, what is that woman's problem with full stops?) experience in TV production and as a producer ensures her presence on set, and will start shrieking if when they try to cut out the oh my's and inner goddesses.

Yeah, I can definitely see her pulling a SMeyer with her, "YOU CAN'T CUT THE 'AND SO THE LION FELL IN LOVE WITH THE LAMB' QUOTE OMG THE FANS WOULD NOT STAAAAAND FOR IT!!"
Such delusional crap.

If they keep in all of the inner goddess nonsense, I may need to see this because it will be hysterical. It's a shame E L James (seriously, what is that woman's problem with full stops?) experience in TV production and as a producer ensures her presence on set, and will start shrieking if when they try to cut out the oh my's and inner goddesses.

Re: Upcoming Films
I really, really, really hope there is a constant voiceover of Bella's internal monologue, Captain's Log style. That would make my life.
(ETA days later: I meant Ana, obviously. *facepalm*)

Re: Upcoming Films
Okay, I am just ridiculously excited about Rush, and at the same time I am kind of amused at comments I've seen connected to reviews of the movie. "How can you mention Plot Point X in your review! Thanks for the spoiler!"
Plot Point X is RIGHT THERE IN ALL THE TRAILERS. It's kind of the lynchpin of the whole plot of the movie, and it's the first thing you find out about one of the main characters of the movie if you google his name, if you didn't know it already, since most people who have heard of this character have heard of Plot Point X. (I'm not confident I can work spoilers here so please excuse the coyness.)
Anyway, the movie looks great, it's being well-reviewed by people who like F1 and people who don't care, and Hemsworth and Bruhl are apparently terrific in their roles. It opens wide next Friday and I wish it was then already.

I don't know anything about the plot or racing, but I found out Chris Hemsworth gets nekkid, so I know where my shallow ass is gonna be tomorrow afternoon.

This is also a perfectly legitimate reason to see the movie! :DPutli Bai wrote:I don't know anything about the plot or racing, but I found out Chris Hemsworth gets nekkid, so I know where my shallow ass is gonna be tomorrow afternoon.

Tragically, Rush doesn't open in this area until NEXT weekend, so no nekkid Hemsworth for me today. Woe.

In Narnia news, The Silver Chair is going to be a movie! Other than the LWW, I always thought this would be one of the easier books to adapt. The plot is straightforward which was a problem with Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Interesting. But I thought they were doing Magician's Nephew next. I'll go and see whatever they release, but I would have sworn it was Magician's Nephew.

We're getting a second Machete and I still haven't seen Nicholas Cage as Dr. Fu Man Chu?
